There is an "Add Photo/Edit" button at the bottom of each of the biography and family web pages.
What do I need to do to make this button work for adding photos?
I will assume that you have successfully uploaded global web pages to your internet web server.
Also, I will assume you used a separate FTP program to upload your web pages.
First, you will need to select the EDIT->PREFERENCE OPTIONS pull-down menu option in the "KA"
program.
On the first page (General TAB) of the PREFERENCES menu add or verify the "base URL address".
This box needs to be filled in with the base URL link to your web pages.
Also on the first page (General TAB) of the PREFERENCES menu fill in a "photo password". Make
this some special word that you can easily remember. If you want your remote family members to
add photos to your web site you will need to share this "photo password" with them.
On the third page (Auto FTP Copy TAB) of the PREFERENCES menu you will need to checkmark the
box labeled "Activate Auto FTP Copy".
Also, on the third page (Auto FTP Copy TAB) of the PREFERENCES menu you will need to fill in
the following boxes; "user ID', "password", "domain", and "directory". All of these items are the
same as in your FTP program.
For more instructions on setting up the AUTO FTP COPY function see the following web page:
Be sure to click OKAY when you are finished editing in the PREFERENCES menu.
Finally, after these changes are made you will need to re-build your GLOBAL web pages and again
copy them to your web server.
Hint: if use the AUTO FTP COPY function, this process will be much easier.
After the global web pages are built and copied, open up your web browser (Internet Explorer
or Netscape) and try selecting the "ADD PHOTO/EDIT" button on the bottom of any one of your
biographical or family web pages. Follow the instructions on the add photo web page. Be sure to
fill in the "photo password" that you assigned above. Select a ".JPG" or ".GIF" picture file from
your hard drive and select the submit photo button and/or any other prompts. After a few moments
the pictures you selected should be transferred to your web page.
Let me know if you have any problems, okay?
After pressing the "Add Photo/Edit" button I received the following example E-mail:

Subject: Auto E-Mail Responder
This automatic response e-mail was generated to inform you that changes have been made to your web
site at link:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dpevjen/05/t0507.html
If you want to include these changes in your Kinship Archivist permanent database you will need to
perform the following steps:
1...In the "KA" program select the "FILE->INCLUDE LATEST WEB
CHANGES AND/OR PHOTOS" pull-down menu option.
2...After a short wait a dialog box will appear. At this time
you will need to scroll/select record number 01287
from the "EDITED RECORD NUMBER" listbox.
3...If you prefer you can select the "ALL" option in the
"EDITED RECORD NUMBER" listbox.
4...At this point you will need to decide if you want to
include the photos and changes or destroy them. To
include them click-on the "INCLUDE CHANGES" button.
To destroy the photos and changes click-on the
"DESTROY CHANGES" button.
5...Finally, you will be asked to verify your choice. After
you verify just wait a few moments and the process
will finish.

Since there is no option "FILE->INCLUDE LATEST WEB CHANGES AND/OR PHOTOS" function in Kinship Archivist 3.1
how can I perform this?
That is correct, this portion of the program has not been completed yet. However, there is an easy
work-around solution you can use whenever you receive one of these E-mails. Please follow the steps
below:
First, inside of your web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) go to the link of the changed web
page. In this case the link is as follows:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dpevjen/05/t0507.html
Next, select the "ADD PHOTO/EDIT" button at the bottom of this web page.
Once the web form is displayed, You will see a large edit box at the very bottom labeled "Edit the
text below". Use the COPY/PASTE function to highlight and COPY all of The text found in this edit
box.
Hint: Place the blinking caret into the Edit box then hold the shift key and press CTRL-key and press END-key
to hightlight the text you want to select then click the right mouse button to find the COPY/PASTE function
menu.
Next, open the "KA" program and quickly go the record number you need by entering it in the lower right corner and
clicking on the "RECORD" button. The record number can be found in step 2 of the E-mail you received so for
this example case it would be "record number 01287".
Select either the biography notes or family notes edit page and PASTE the text into the appropriate one. If
there was old text in this edit page before you started you will need to highlight it and delete it away.
The text in the biography notes or family notes edit page must look exactly like only the text you just
PASTED in.
Again this is a temporary work-around. In the future version of "KA" the E-mail instructions should
work correctly.
Every time I try to convert a record into a web page, the accurate birthdate in the record
changes to read "ABOUT" followed by the year of birth in the converted web page. What am I
doing wrong?
If you select the EDIT->PREFERENCE OPTIONs pull-down menu a dialog box should appear. Near
the bottom center of this dialog box you will see a box titled "hide birth dates after year".
The default value in this box is the year "1910". Any birth dates that occur after 1910 will
be displayed in the converted web page(s) in the "ABOUT YEAR" format.
You will need to type-in a new year in the "hide birth dates after year" box. If you type-in
"2002" all birth dates should appear the way you want. Incidentally, you can type-in the year
"9999" if you want.
The reason for the "hide birth dates after year" box was to allow users the ability to protect
personal identity records. On the second page (tab) of the PREFERENCES menu you will find a
variety of items that you can hide simply by checking any or all of the boxes. All of these
items relate to protecting personal identity records.
Why does the FTP AUTO Copy function not work in Windows XP?
Actually it will work after you perform a couple of extra steps after the Windows XP
setup. Here are the steps you must follow:
1..Click on Control Panel.
2..Click on Network and Internet Connections.
3..Click on pick a Control Panel icon "Network Connections."
4..Right Click on the Dial-up icon -> Click Properties.
5..Click on the "Advanced" tab along the top of the dialog box.
6..Click on the "Settings..." button near the bottom of the dialog box.
7..Check the "FTP Server" checkmark box.
Using Windows 2000, I get an error that reads; "I/O error in WOW32.dll at
0x0ffc73eb." The error seems to happen when I move the cursor over the
Minimize/Maximize arrows at the top/right portion of the screen. How can I get
rid of this error?
From information I've read on a Microsoft web site, I've suggested users
download the following file:
Then copy this file into their "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM" folder. So far two
users have replied back that the problem has went away for them. If you try this
fix please contact us and tell us if it worked for you, okay?
How can I get my links to work correctly?
This question comes up often. Here are a few things to check out. First, you
must build "GLOBAL" web pages for the web server. Even though the "LOCAL" web
pages link correctly on your local hard drive, they will never link correctly on
the Interent web server.
Second, be sure you have entered the "base URL address" correctly in the "Preferences
Menu". This address should cause your browser to go to the "INDEX" web page on your
web site. This "base URL address" is inserted in each web page and is the base
reference for all other web page address links. The "base URL address" should always
end in a '/' character.
Thirdly, all web pages you transfer to the web server must have all their web links
in "LOWER CASE" letters.
This is especially important if you use a seperate FTP copy program to copy
your web pages. If you must use a seperate FTP program, I would suggest that you
use the WS_FTP program that can be downloaded at the following web site:
The WS_FTP program allows you to force all filenames to "LOWER CASE" letters. It
will also allow you to rename your filename suffixes from ".HTM" to "html" as
needed on all Linux servers.
